Taxi fare is P2.50 at flagdown for the first 500 meters and P1.00 for every 250 meters thereafter. Air-conditioned taxis charge P10 for every 250 meters above the metered fare. In all cases, insist that the taxi driver use his meter, because they are required by law to do so. Highly recommended taxi firms are Golden Taxi (black-bodied) and R&E Taxi (yellow-bodied with green stripes).
Top-class tourists get special treatment. If you take an air-con taxi from a five-star hotel, expect to pay 50% over the metered fare, or else by a printed "set-fare chart" (whichever the driver feels is appropriate). This added cost is the "premium" tourists pay for the guaranteed safety and good service. So, if you feel you're still being grossly overcharged, do complain to the hotel desk. Action is taken - quietly - against the taxi concessionaires.
